Carrots

Re-filled a planter box today with new potting mix/cow manure and have planted heirloom carrots; the vibrant colours look fantastic in salads, unfortunately they lose the colour if you cook them. I’m hoping I will have better success with them in a pot as the Black Birds tend to make a mess of my garden beds. I also struggle to keep the surface of the soil moist enough for germination.

  1. @tracey Love a home grown carrot. try keeping a little newspaper on top of soil, keeping it wet. It will help to contain the moisture. Also some chicken wire will keep the black birds out. A spary bottle is sometimes better to water seedlings as it doesn’t disturb them to much.
