rammed earth building

Went and visited a 30 year old rammed earth home today; gorgeous! Lots of cedar windows looking out to the north gardens, and just so darn earthy! Excuse the punn, but it really was. Lovely and cool too, no doubt also warm in winter. They also had solar power and facility to heat water in winter when the fire is going. It confirms my dream of wanting to live in a home constructed of natural materials such as mud or rendered straw bale. So beautiful and unobtrusive.

  1. Hi @Tracey. I’ve been to a few places like that too – made of natural materials and sometimes made by the owner’s hands too – and it’s strange how you can feel the difference between them and most other houses. Not that it’s warmer or cooler or anything like that, but there’s a different atmosphere about a place that’s been made like that. It’s hard to explain.
