Turning off standby power

February 27, 2013 in Blog

Hi @Marg51510 that sounds like an interesting gadget in your post, the one from ACTEWAGL ‘that turns off all those nasty standby lights on the TV and everything associated with it.’ It certainly beats burrowing behind chairs and cupboards to find all those power switches.

How are you finding it? And do you know how it works?

  1. Yes, it is good. You can also set the gadget to turn off after 1,2 or 3 hours too. After you turn off the TV it only takes a minute and all the standby lights go off. They say that standby lights use a lot of power.

  2. @Marg51510, Do you mind if I ask how much it cost you to have it installed? Would it need to be installed only in a house that you owned, or could it work in a rental as well? This is one of my ‘challenges’ so I’d love to know more about it!

  3. @Marg51510, I’d love to know how much it is too. I think we would need a couple of them.

  4. Hi @Marg51510 @Woyapp and @ScrappyKat

There’s more information about the remote standby thingo on the ACTEWAGL website here: http://www.actewagl.com.au/Product-and-services/Offers-and-prices/Promotional-offers/Energy-assist-kit.aspx

    I have got the right thing haven’t I @Marg51510 ?

  5. Thanks @ecoaction that looks really interesting. It looks like we’d need a pile of them too @ScrappyKat . I’ve just had a look on the web and you can get individual plugs if you need more. Here’s a link: http://www.smarthome.com.au/expansion-modules/321-remote-powerpoint-kit-indoor.html
