Does anyone know much about this new national recycling scheme http://www.environment.gov.au/minister/farrell/2012/pubs/mr20120306.pdf .

eg, does it just include TV’s and computers or all electrical items?

  1. As far as I can tell, it only applies to TVs and computers (along with printers and computer products like mice and DVD drives) – check out Schedule 1 to the Product Stewardship (Television and Computers) Regulations 2011. The principal act allows for similar schemes to apply to pretty much any type of product (see section 5) though, so it depends on political will.
Also, I assume you are already aware of the ACT’s e-waste recycling scheme?

  2. What to challengers think of the idea of getting voluntary groups to collect old TVs and computors in an area (especially where there are aged people) to take to the recycling station, to reduce the number of trips people take to recycle products?
