Chemical free cleaning recipes

August 24, 2012 in Blog

I thought I would start a blog where wee could all share our favorite recipes.

My favorite is my bench spray. Fill spray bottle with about an inch off white vinegar, two teaspoon of bicrab soda and then fill with water.

  1. @Stanwix what a great idea! We’ll add a couple next week but I just wanted to mention that I concoct a very similar basic cleaning spray to you however just add a couple of drops of tea tree, eucalyptus or lavender as an extra anti-bacterial but also for the scent! I am lavender obsessed – so that’s usually my pick! :)

  2. I haven’t been to the chemical free cleaning products workshop yet. Is there a good recipe for cleaning stainless steel?

    • They recommended 2tbs salt mixed with 2 tbs white vinegar.

    • We tried the stainless steel cleaner this weekend. Worked well at cleaning but left the surfaces a little streaky. Next time we are going to try rubbing some olive oil over the surfaces afterwards as someone recommend this leaves the stainless steel looking nice.

  3. A dilute vinegar solution is very good for cleaning glass.
Cider vinegar is also very good as a hair rinse instead of conditioner. It removes all the soap from your hair and makes it very shiny.

    • I just found a good face wash recipe online which I am going to try. It is 1tbs honey mixed with 1tsp of bicarb, you apply and then rinse off with water.

  4. @Wombat01 – you also don’t need to use Shampoo, a dilute bicarb solution is sufficient to clean your hair (should only need to do so once a week after getting through your skulls 6 week readjustment period)! I’ve got a range of natural cleaning & personal care recipes pinned on my natural niche boards – http://www.pinterest.com/tarynsinfo if you’re interested in looking into a few more options.

Also, check out my blog http://www.sheconfessions.com I’m gradually sharing everything there that I shared in the Chemical Free Cleaning workshop. :-)

I’m no expert on these things, it is a hobby of mine to research ever since I came across Nature Direct products 3 years or so ago.

  5. Thought I would post a washing detergent recipe:

    1 cup Vinegar (white)
    1 cup Baking Soda
    1 cup Washing Soda
    1/4 cup liquid castile soap

■Mix well and store in sealed container.
