• @Cinemaiden We’ve bought some & hired through the nappy library – they have a range to try. So far, I like the GloBugs newborns ones best, because they are slim fit & don’t dig in to her legs. & it’s a local […]

  • We got a 1L weed sprayer to spray poo off the nappies – it works fantastically well compared to the low pressure of the laundry sink!

Brought bub home on Thursday. Day 3 of using cloth nappies going well thanks to help from partner – we start our nappy library trial tomorrow, so we can work out which ones work best for us & stock up! Hopefully all continues as smoothly as this…

    • @lucinda….which ones are you using to start off with? Will be interested to hear how it goes for you, which brands/types work best…

      Cheers,

This looks like a great website – it would be good if they could open it up to others who work near those departments, too, or if there was a place for no-ACT govt people to register interest…

Agree with @Ecoaction. While you & I might think that not using plastic shopping bags is really easy, others might have difficulty. And the challenges are broad enough that you can interpret what you want.

For me, our household waste is quite small compared to others (one kitchen bag per week, not necessarily full), but our recycling is fairly…[Read more]

  • The Kathmandu sales are on again! 3 pairs of reusable pocket hand warmers for $20 – great for Canberra’s cold winter mornings… :-)

In reply to: Ecoaction commented on the post, Cloth Nappies Hi Lucinda, hope the workshop and nappy library helped you get your head around the options available for modern cloth nappies today! View

Yeah, it was great! REally useful info! I’m still as confused as ever… but I’m looking forward to trying the nappy library to see what will work for me. :-)

In reply to: Girrawa posted an update We have turned our thermostats down just one degree at our house as well as turned heating off in rooms not being used. View

We’ve also cleaned our filter – a job that’s been on the to-do list for a week. It’s amazing the difference we’ve noticed in how much air is pumping out & how little difference we’ve noticed when the temp is set 1 or 2 degrees less!

  • I have friends who’ve loved them & friends who’ve hated them – which is why I’ll be going to the workshop to find out more! I’m also interested in the nappy library, so that we can try several types & see what […]

Just out of curiosity – what window coverings did you have & what did you change to? It’s our first winter in our house & the heating seems to be on a fair bit… We are looking into making a pelmet (trial run to see how it goes) using the link you posted a couple of weeks ago!

Had our ACT Garden Smart visit this morning. Suzie gave us some great tips on waterwise gardening, including suggestions for our vegie patch, planned berry garden & fruit trees. I particularly liked her suggestion for portable, easy to make drip irrigation for the vegie patch, so that we can move it & make sure we don’t destroy it when planting…[Read more]

Also late broad beans (would be ready in October), onions, garlic, shallots, rhubarb. I’ve also planted some year-round carrots, but I don’t know how much care they’d need while you’re away.

I got mine in the Kathmandu sales – they had them 3 pairs for the price of 1. I’ve seen others around too – I think most camping / outdoor stores have them. :-)
